Toro’s Tapas Still Steal the Spolight in the South End

 
While Boston in winter can be incredibly, beautiful with snow, lights lining the buildings and beautiful wreaths hanging on doors and handrails, some may fear it too chilly a destination to visit. Lucky, just steps from our Boston bed and breakfast we have something to keep you warm and lure you out. What better way to warm your bones than enjoy a delicious meal and cocktail in a South End restaurant? Just a short walk from Clarendon Square Bed and Breakfast lies one of the city’s most popular restaurants: Toro, a unique tapas style restaurant helmed by renowned chef, Ken Oringer.

Ken Oringer was voted most likely to succeed upon graduation from the Culinary Institute of America in 1989. And boy has he proven everyone right! Ken opened his first restaurant, Clio, in 1997 and in 2002, opened Uni, a sashimi bar within Clio. Chef Oringer was nominated four times for the James Beard award for Best Chef Northeast and finally won in 2001. Clio was named one of the top 50 restaurants according to Gourmet Magazine. Jamie Bissonette is the chef at Toro and if the name sounds familiar, then you have probably eaten at his other restaurant, Eastern Standard in Kenmore Square, where he was the opening chef. The Improper Bostonian namedhim “Rising Star Chef “ and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Bon Appetite, and the Boston Globe and was voted people’s choice Best New Chef in Food and Wine Magazine for his colloborative work with Ken at their restaurant Coppa, also in the South End.

At Toro tasty dishes like salt cod fritters with lemon rings and aioli, premium cured Spanish ham and fois gras with fig jam and candied walnuts fill the menu. The Mediterranean spices and cozy environment will warm and welcome everyone from local regulars to world travelers. Perhaps you want to stop by on your way out downtown for a drink. The unique cocktails will certainly get you ready for a night out on the town if they don’t convince you to stay put and enjoy a dish or two! Drinks such as La Granada, a bubbly cocktail with Reyka vodka, pomegranate juice and a twist of lime, will quench your desire for something delicious and refreshing and leave you wanting more. It is no secret that they over the best Tapas in Boston.

As you can see we love dining at restaurants in downtown, it is one of our favorite things to do in Boston. The convenience of Toro’s location and stellar reputation leave you no reason miss out on the incredible eats and drinks. If the comforting warmth from the food and drink wears off by the time you get back to the Inn for the night, consider a dip in the hot tub before bed. What better way to unwind after a fun-filled day than letting the jets massage your muscles as you take in a view of the city during the peaceful night.
