The 5 Best Donuts in Boston for National Donut Day!

Last Friday was National Donut Day. This post is a little delayed because we were so busy celebrating. It was fitting that we celebrated in Boston as the Boston area is the birthplace of America’s beloved donut company Dunkin Donuts. You can visit the original location in Quincy, which is just a quick subway ride from the city.

Other than Dunkin Donuts (shoutout to their glazed donut), we rounded up our favorite local donut shops so you can celebrate a belated National Donut Day next time you are in town.

Union Square Donuts in Somerville. Known for their maple bacon donut, this shop handmakes all of their donuts on site in Somerville. With limited hours, your best bet is to get there early because lines form fast. Check out their extensive menu. Their hours are M-F, 7am-1pm Saturday & Sunday 7am-3pm.

Blackbird Doughnuts in our very own South End neighborhood is a venture from The Gallows owner Rebecca Roth Gallows. Their hours on their site are listed as “Monday – Sunday 7a – 3p (or until we sell out).” So again, get there before they run out. You wouldn’t want to miss out on delicious flavors such as Blackberry Lavender or Chocolate Ganache.

Vernas Pastry and Donut Shop in Cambridge is another Clarendon Square favorite. The donuts are made fresh every morning. Their most popular is the chocolate glazed donut. They are open later than the others on the list, Monday – Saturday from 5:30 am – 6:00 pm.

Donuts with a Difference in Medford was voted Boston’s Best Donut by Boston magazine in 2014. Their Boston creme is a fan favorite. They also have delicious coffee rolls and coconut cakes.

Next time you are in Boston, stay with Clarendon Square and enjoy our continental breakfast which sometimes includes donuts. Or we can help you plan your donut tour through Boston!
